MUK VC Nawangwe Strikes Again, Suspends University Guild Elections

1 Mins read

Makerere University Vice Chancellor has reportedly suspended the institutions guild elections.

According to a letter addressed to the dean of students, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe says the elections cannot go ahead with the on-gong strike by staff.

The elections at the university normally take place in March after a month of campaigns.

According to the letter, he suspended the elections to provide a “conducive environment to facilitate the process of returning the university to normalcy.”

The VC is in a standoff with teaching and non-teaching staff who have since refused to teach over the suspension of their colleagues.

On Tuesday, the now controversial VC suggested suspending the school of law for allegedly inciting students to strike.
