Polish Firm To Establish Specialized Teaching Hospital In Uganda

1 Mins read

President Yoweri Museveni has told a Polish investment delegation that the Government has accepted their plans to establish a highly specialized teaching hospital in Uganda.

The President was speaking in a meeting with the visiting Chairman of a Polish-based organization known as Foundation – Light for Africa, Mr. Julius Zellah and his delegation, who called on him yesterday at State House, Entebbe.

“This is very good. This hospital could be a teaching institution since you are linked to a Professor from Makerere University. I approve and I welcome you. The government will get you the land and we shall arrange with the Ministry of Finance for a soft loan for the project,” the President said.

Mr. Zellah, on his part, revealed that the specialized hospital, to be a centre for training and research for Makerere University, will be constructed using a soft loan from the Government of Poland

Professor Charles Ibingira of Makerere University College of Health Sciences said the hospital will serve as a training facility for Makerere University medical students on internship modules, adding that the facility will go a long way in de-congesting Mulago Referral Hospital where medical students on internship are currently being handled.

He also revealed that the hospital will handle complicated medical conditions like bone marrow transplant, among others, that usually make Ugandans spend a lot of money seeking for specialized treatment in India and other countries abroad. State Minister for Privatization and Investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite, among others, attended the meeting.
