Makerere Administration Looks Into Strategies To End Strikes

As strikes continue at Makerere University, on Tuesday 22nd January 2019 some lecturer rooms were seen locked, students hanging around the University, two to three students found in the lecture rooms however, time table is well displayed indicating that lectures are supposed to be on going.

Makerere University Academic Staff Committee has started designing strategies on how to resolve and end strikes at the University.

The University administration has started meeting some of the lecturers on strike so that the current situation is restored at the University.

Dr. Kiggundu Muhammad the current and the acting University Public Relations officer said the University needs to engage all the parties on strike to ensure the smooth running and for lectures to continue.

“We need engagement and listen to each other to put the university in order,” he explained

Meanwhile Dr Edward Mwavu, Vice Chairperson Makerere University Staff Association said that the strike will continue even as University holds talks with University management

“There are various reasons for the lectures not to take place. You are well aware that we have laid down our tools. My major concern is to solve the issues at hand even if students have missed lecturers, they can be compensated,” he added.
