President Yoweri Museveni has today joined the people of Sheema District in the Ankole Sub-Region to celebrate the victory registered by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the recently concluded by-elections in Sheema North and Sheema Municipality Constituencies.
Addressing jubilant Party supporters at Koranorya Market in Kigarama Sub-County of Sheema North Constituency, the President thanked the people of Sheema District in particular and Uganda in general for consistently voting for the NRM and said it has enabled the Movement to continue implementing development programmes.
“What you sow is what you reap. I know this area very well. All these developments were not there. Thank you for voting NRM all the time,” he said.
He congratulated the newly elected Members of Parliament for Sheema North and Sheema Municipality, Hon. Naomi Kibaaju and Hon. Elioda Tumwesigye respectively on their victories.
He used the occasion to call on all leaders to take up the government’s initiative on household poverty eradication through wealth creation based on the four-acre model.
He asked leaders to follow up on what each household does adding that each should be engaged in activities to generate money and create employment especially for the youth.
He asked for proper use of funds given to the youth saying that the funds should be put in their SACCOs for people to borrow at low interest rates.
On environment protection, the President warned those that encroach on wetland encroachers saying that their transgression should be treated sinful.
He asked leaders to sensitise the people on the dangers of destruction of the environment.
He also reminded wananchi of the National Resistance Movement achievements of peace, infrastructure development and education, among others, noting that the roads that are not yet tarmac will be worked on.
The newly elected MP for Sheema North, Hon. Naomi Kibaaju and Hon. Elioda Tumwesigye for Sheema Municipality thanked their supporters for massively voting them and for NRM.
They pledged support and service delivery to the people.
Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Hon. Ephraim Kamuntu and that in Charge of General Duties in the Office of Prime Minister, Hon. Mary Karooro Okurut, among others, attended the celebrations.
