Museveni Signs MoU With Chinese Investors

The Government of Uganda and a Chinese group known as Shanghai Construction Company Ltd, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims at the enhancement of cooperation in the development of infrastructure and promotion of agro-industrialization in Uganda, mainly for local economic development in the Rwenzori Sub-Region, among other developments.

The ceremony took place today at State House, Entebbe and was witnessed by President Yoweri Museveni and the 1st Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Museveni.

The MoU was initiated by the Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Monica Azuba Ntege and the Chief Business Officer of Shanghai Construction Group Company Ltd, Mr. Tai Dong.

Under this MoU, the Government of Uganda seeks to construct Budiba Bridge in Ntoroko District crossing River Semuliki to Bunia in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and all roads connecting the said bridge in the Rwenzori Sub-Region.

In his remarks, President Museveni said that the initialling of the MoU that paves the way for development of infrastructure will go along way in promoting tourism in the Rwenzori area in Western Uganda.

Mr. Tai Dong, on his part, commended the cooperation between his Group and the Government of Uganda.

He said that Shanghai Construction Group Company Ltd has enough experience and skills to undertake the project adding that the Group enjoys vast experience in contracting similar construction projects in Africa in particular and other parts of  the world.
