Police have arrested four people linked to the mob killing of a South Sudanese national.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Luke Owoyewogyire said that the four were arrested on Thursday last week following the brutal killing which took place on 23rd June 2018 in Katooke.

“They were linked to a murder case where a South Sudanese identified as Lam Duot Deng Duot a student at International University of East Africa in Kansanga was allegedly assaulted and murdered by a group of waste collectors at Dubai Washing Bay.

He was accused of having tried to rob a breast feeding mother along the railway line and was believed to have been involved in criminal activities in the area.

The deceased’s cousin reported a disappearance case and was advised to check at Mulago Mortuary where the late brother’s body was positively identified.

A team of officers from Kireka expedited the investigations around the scene of crime and a number of arrests were made.

Onlookers positively identified the people who were involved in the mob.

The witnesses told police of how the suspects killed the young boy mercilessly even when he pleaded for his life.

They revealed that the suspects threw verbal insults towards his nationality as they carried out the heinous act.

Police identified the suspects as Josephat Ahimbisibwe alias Ssekimpi 21, James Okwale 36 alias Rasta Kigere, Henry Buuti 20 alias Ipanda and Abed Tugume 20.

More arrests are expected to be made as the matter is still under investigation.

Luke Owoyesigyire Condemns Mob Justice.

“It is unaccepted for citizens to break the law and all those involved should face the music. We appreciate the involvement of communities in assisting the police to fight crime but we are disappointed by those who take the law into their own hands‚” he said.

“Suspects who are sought or suspected to be involved in criminal activities should be handed over to police if they are arrested by those making a citizen’s arrest.”

The four suspects are currently detained at Kira Division Police Station vide CRB 222/2018 and are charged with murder contrary to section 188 and 189 of the Penal Code Act and are to be arraigned before Kira Magistrate’s Court this week.
