The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has contributed shs10 million towards the construction of the Mothers’ Union House in Namirembe, Kampala.

She commended the Mothers’ Union for the work it had done to impact society and for projects they are currently running.

“It is good to note that you started a day-care centre because it aids mothers who have infants and yet have to work. I also appreciate the construction of the dormitory for girls because time and again, they have been marginalized and left to go home late in the evening subjecting them to all sorts of dangers,” Kadaga said, Monday, 18 June 2018.

The Speaker also laid a foundation for construction of a six-storey building on Namirembe Hill.

The President of the Mother’s Union,Josephine Kasaato, said the building would house offices, banking hall and also have space for rent.

“We run a number of projects including a day care centre, primary school, art and crafts shop and a girl’s hostel for Mengo S.S. We need a new building to run our projects,” she said.

Kasaato said that the building is estimated to cost shs12.5 billion of which shs520 million has so far been realised.

The Speaker later awarded certificates to members of the Mothers’ Union who had contributed significantly towards the construction of the House
