Forum for Democratic Change candidate Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira has won the hotly contested Rukungiri woman MP by-election.

FDC’s Bamukwatsa Betty Muzanira polled 50,611, NRM’s Matsiko Winfred polled 46,329, Independent Mbaguta Prisca got 993 and PPP’s Kukundakwe Fabith went home with only 183votes.

Betty Bamukwatsa Muzanira voted from Rukungiri stadium at about 11:06am

Earlier in the day the process was peaceful however polling materials arrived late at some polling stations and over 10people were arrested for voter malpractices.

There were also delays in the tallying of votes at the tally centre and this took over 12hours.

During the tallying, FDC rejected results from Burora parish headquarters.

“FALSIFICATION: At Burora CoU polling station in Nyarushanje Winnie Masiko has been given 695 votes, Betty Muzanira 30 votes and Ssezi Mbaguta 7 votes.

Actual DR form has Winnie 276 Betty Muzanira 117 votes, Invalid 14. All agents have signed the DR form,” reads the Tweet on FDC timeline.

The EC later nullified the result to resume the tallying process.

Upon opening the ballot box from Burora CoU, it was found out that the FDC results on the DR forms were very accurate.

It is worth noting that NRM candidate Winnie Matsiko and her husband stormed out of the tally centre after this very incident.

It is also imperative to note that there was a power blackout at the tally centre for close to 30minutes.
