A gun that was being used by criminals to torment Kasese residents has been recovered by Police in Rwenzori Region during a recently launched operation to crack down criminal gangs.
Rwenzori Regional Police Commander SSP. Caesar Tusingwiire confirmed that joint security operations were conducted against suspected criminals camping and hiding in mountains of Kisinga, Nyakiyumbu and Kyondo sub counties, Bwera Division, Kasese District.
Over eight suspects were arrested and as a result, unknown thugs abandoned an unmarked SMG gun loaded with 5 rounds at a veranda of the area councillor Mr. Janolesi Muhindo Muthubya of Kyabisoro village, Rwakirema parish.
SSP. Tusingwiire said fingerprints have been lifted from the recovered gun and submitted to the forensic lab for investigations to identify users if the owners are linked to any offences.
“It is pleasing to see a firearm recovered, removed from our areas, and we will be working to establish if it is linked to any recent incidents in our region or elsewhere,” said Tusingwiire.
“This means we have neutralized its potential to cause serious fear and risks to people in the area.”
