Museveni, EU Join Hands To Restore Uganda Wetlands

President Yoweri Museveni has called for support of the European Union to the efforts of the NRM Government as the Movement strives to address the challenges that have been precipitated by climate change in Uganda, especially the move to restore wetlands that have been degraded.

The President also commended the European Union’s commitment geared towards addressing and stemming down the negative effects of the global climate change.

The President made the remarks last evening at State House, during a meeting with the envoys of the European Union member countries who were led by the Head of Delegation of the European Union in Uganda, Ambassador Attilio Pacifici.

The other envoys included that of Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Britain, Italy, Austria and the Netherlands.

President Museveni and his guests discussed a number of issues of mutual interest between the EU member countries and Uganda, the region and the African continent in general.

The meeting mainly focused on trade and investment climate in Uganda, democracy and good governance as well as regional issues such as peace and security in Somalia, South Sudan and the Great Lakes region.

The European Union delegation congratulated President Museveni upon the successful hosting of the just concluded AMISOM Summit that took place in Uganda.

The EU envoys informed Mr. Museveni that they they believe the Summit had achieved tangible results for Somalia and the region.

Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Attorney General, Mr. William Byaruhanga, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Engineer Hilary Onek and State Minister for Water, Mr. Ronald Kibuule and Government officials, attended the meeting
