Kawempe Youth, Police In Running Battles

1 Mins read

Police has engaged in running battles with a section of Youth in Wandegeya as the latter protested against unemployment.

Wandegeya Police moved to arrest the youth when they blocked the roads and caused heavy traffic jam in the city centre.

Several were arrested and taken to Wandegeya police station.

The youth argued that there are many opportunities in Kawempe division but when it comes to getting jobs, the native residents are ignored.

“Our cause is very simple, there are many things we are fighting for as the youth of Kawempe.

“There are many job opportunities in Kawempe which are not given to the people who live in Kawempe yet they have the same qualifications as those who come from elsewhere.

“As young people we are doing whatever it takes to take up these opportunities so this is a wake-up call to the government to consider us as people who live in Kawempe such that in whatever they plan they also consider us,” one of the youth representatives from Kawempe narrated.
