LC Elections Won’t Be Held This Year — High Court

After over 15years without having local council elections, it’s still uncertain if the Elections will be held anytime soon.

Today High court in Kampala issued another order that will see LC elections pushed up to January 30, 2018.

Civil Division head Justice Stephen Musota issued the order on the request of Electoral Commission lawyer Eric Sabiiti who requested the court for ample time to finalize negotiations with a petitioner, one James Tweheyo, so as to reach a settlement.

Sabiiti informed the court that these negotiations are in advanced stages and soon the two parties will reach a consensus on the matter.

This website understands that In November Jinja High Court blocked Women Council elections that were supposed to be held November 14 arguing that some students were sitting for their Uganda advanced Certificate of Examination.

“The Electoral Commission, in compliance with two Court Orders issued by the High Court at Kampala, this 13th day of November 2017, and another one issued by the High Court at Jinja, this 13th day of November 2017, which are binding on the Electoral Commission, hereby informs the general public that the elections for Village Women Councils and Committees and Elections for Administrative Units (LC I & LC II) shall not be held as earlier scheduled.”
