Kadaga tips women lawyers

1 Mins read

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has implored women lawyers to endeavour to excel in their practice in order to stand out in the profession.

This was while she was officiating at the Women Lawyers’ inaugural meeting under the 22ndAnnual Conference of East Africa Law Society themed “Future proofing of the legal profession in East Africa” held at the Imperial Golf Course View Hotel on Thursday, 16th November, 2017.

The Speaker commended the organisers for the inaugural women lawyer’s meeting saying that it would be a good opportunity to address issues women face in the profession.

“We need to focus on what we are doing and use our positions to impact positively in our society; we need to see more women-owned law firms and women occupying government positions like Attorney General and Chief Justice,” Kadaga said.

She further appealed to women in the legal field to market themselves more to their clients.

“Women in the legal profession need to be courageous, knowledgeable and study more to appear better versed with what we do and sell ourselves in this patriarchal society,” the Speaker said.

She noted that there is a challenge of social injustice because the structures are not in favour of the ordinary person like women and children.

“Let us use our positions to make sure we protect the interests of women and other marginalised groups,” Kadaga added.
