Three children have been hacked to death in Fort Portal by their brother suspected to be mentally ill.
The incident happened on Sunday at 10 pm in Rwengoma B2 Village, Fort Portal Central Division.
According to Vincent Twesige, the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson, the suspect has been identified as Brian Mutegeki, 20.
Twesige explains that when the mother of the victims, Mariam Nabukenya was in her bar working, Mutegeki hacked to death his siblings Charles Kagaba aged seven, another identified only as Catherine 2 years, and 4-year-old Mutungi Kagaba.
His other siblings Brefin Komuhendo 17 and Chris Kagaba 7 sustained serious injuries and are admitted at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.
Twesige says that after the killing, the suspect fled with the murder weapon. He adds that they have received information from his relatives and neighbors that Mutegeki has not been in his normal senses for several years.
Twesige says that the hunt for the suspect is ongoing.
