Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has extended the on-going boda boda census exercise to  September 16 2022.

The authority made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

The exercise which started on 15″ August 2022 across ten designated census centres around the City had earlier been scheduled to end on August 30″ 2022

“We have however witnessed an exponential upsurge of riders in the last two days of the exercise prompting us to make this consideration for an extension,”said authority.

‘All our current Centres shall be open up to Friday 2″ September 2022 after which the census exercise shall exclusively take place at our five division offices,”

It urged all riders to utilise the grace period provided beyond which KCCA shall assume anyone not recorded in it’s system shall not be planned for.’

Authority said the objectives of the census exercise will feed into smart city

The registration done by KCCA and Ministry for Kampala as well as the RCCs requires riders to register right from their respective stages, parishes and then divisions.

The  Ministry of Works and Transport working with the Uganda Driving Licensing Agency on the other side trains the registered  boda boda riders on proper road use and traffic rules and guidelines.

The riders trained and registered are then given reflector jackets basing on their respective divisions with registration numbers.

The government has insisted that in a few months to come, it will be mandatory that for any rider to operate in the city, they must have registered and got trained.
