Kabarole police are holding 40-year-old Joseph Kasoro for hacking his mother to death in Kichwamba sub-county. Vincent Twesigye, the Rwenzori West Police Spokesperson told URN that Kasoro hacked his mother, Regina Kabagenzi,80, on suspicion of bewitching him.
It is alleged that Kasoro has for long been accusing his mother of ruining his life.
Twesigye says police rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call on Saturday indicating that Kasoro has hacked Kabagezi using an axe.
They picked her up and rushed her to Fort portal Regional Referral hospital where doctors pronounced her dead shortly after arrival.
Twesigye says that Kasoro has since been detained at Busoro central police station as inquiries into the case proceed.
Richard Mwesige, the Kichwamba Village LC I Chairperson, who reported the matter to the police, said he could not verify the root cause of the conflict between Kasoro and her mother which resulted in her death.
He, however, says that some locals claimed that the suspect received a prophecy from local prophets accusing her mother of ruining his life.
Jack Magyezi Kichuchuli, the LC 3 chairperson of the Kichwamba sub-county, says that his team has been able to calm down the situation as residents had started mobilizing to lynch the suspect out of anger.
Magyezi however, says that residents want Kasoro banished from the village, saying it’s not the first time he has committed murder in the same area and wonder how he always finds his way out of prison.
