Singer Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool has revealed that artists have completed a course under the theme; ‘Strengthening the Cultural and Creative Industry in Uganda.’
The workshop whose details are still scanty has been ongoing in Gulu district, Northern Uganda for the past couple of weeks.
During the course of their time, artists were interacting with the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) boss, Gen Salim Saleh who has set camp there.
“Today marks the last day in Gulu where we have been attending a workshop under the theme; ‘Strengthening the Cultural and Creative Industry in Uganda’. The arts and creative industry contributes 3% of Uganda’s GDP and this gives us the right for government to pay full attention,” Bebe Cool posted on his social media pages.
The Gulu sojourn has been criticized by many after it emerged that artists had presented a list of financial demands for compensation they reportedly incurred as a result of the lockdown.
Bobi Wine described artists who were part of the arrangement as beggars who instead of fighting for tangible benefits for all musicians in Uganda, were seeking individual and selfish rewards.
On Tuesday, Musicians from northern Uganda (Gulu) say they have been blocked from meeting Gen Salim Saleh. The Musicians were blocked from accessing Acholi in where the meeting was held.
At the Closing Ceremony of the training stakeholders of the arts industry yesterday, Certificates of Attendance were handed out to appreciate the attendees commitment to strengthening of the Creative and Cultural industry in Uganda.
