Why Police Rearrested Bizonto Comedians

1 Mins read

The Uganda Police on Friday morning raided Radio Simba and arrested a group of comedians popularly known as ‘Bizonto.’

Julius Sserwanja also known as Kidomoole, Mbabaali Maliseeri (Uncle Luyuguumo) Sssaabakaaki Peter (Omuzinyuuzi) and Gold Ki Matono, also known as Opeto were picked up from the Radio Simba offices in Bukoto on Friday.

Bizonto are part of the station’s morning show, Binsangawano which is packaged with satirical skits, mainly linked to the current affairs of the country.

According to reports, they were arrested for missing their police bond which goes against the requirements of their bail following their arrest last year.

Last year in July, the comedians were arrested on allegations of promoting sectarianism and offensive communication.

They were arrested following a recording of selected videos that were uploaded and later shared on various social media platforms, unfortunately with the potential of causing hatred and unnecessary apprehension.

Bizonto will be arraigned before Buganda Road Magistrate’s Court.
