The speaker of Parliament of Uganda, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga has asked NRM delegates to vote her as the Second National Female Vice Chairperson of the Party for facilitating the removal of the presidential Age limits in the constitution.
“I facilitated the amendment of the constitution under article 102 to enable the continuity of NRM ideology and most importantly the NRM chairperson to continue leading the country,” said Kadaga.
Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga is tussling it out with Hon Persis Namuganza and Jane Francis Amongin.
It should be noted that in 2017, 317 members of parliament mainly from the NRM voted to amend the constitution to allow Museveni who will be 76 in 2021 to contest for the 6th elective term as president.
Prior to its amendment, article 102(b) of the constitution restricted persons vying for presidency to between 35 and 75 years of age.
This debate created a stalemate in Parliament until security operatives raided the house and wreaked havoc on opposition MPs who were against the removal of age limit in parliament.
