There has been scuffle at the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) headquarters in Najjanankumbi as the Party rejected the nomination papers of Kampala Woman MP Nabila Naggayi Sempala who wants to stand for Kampala Lord Mayorship in the 2021 elections.
The party labeled Nabilah an ‘imposter’ and “dishonest’ at the same time chasing here away from the party offices.
Nabilah arrived at the party offices in a high mood to tender in her nomination papers for Lord Mayorship race unfortunately the party officials sent her away claiming late coming and forgery among other things.
The FDC Electoral Commission,Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda told the legislator that if she wants to stand for Kampala Lord Mayorship, she should stand as an independent candidate or join another political party.
“Fellow citizens, the return of nomination forms for MPs, Mayors, ended on July,14. That was yesterday. There is no other nomination that is taking place today,” Bamwenda said.
“It is unfortunate that an imposter (Nabilah) came to the party headquarters purporting to be nominated.”he said adding that, “We have checked in our records; she did not even pick forms from the party headquarters. Not even at the district FDC branch,” he added.
Recently, Nabilah declared her intention to contest against Erias Lukwago who is FDC ally for the Kampala Lord mayoral race in 2021 after reliably establishing that battling with Dr. Stella Nyanzi’s in 2021 will be a big obstacle.
Dr. Nyanzi declared her intention to run for the Kampala MP seat shortly after she was released from the prison. She later picked the nomination forms proposed by FDC Vice Chairperson for central region Owekitiibwa Joyce Sebugwawo and seconded by Buwembo Habib and Fred Bugoba
While addressing journalists shortly after the scuffle, Nabilah accused FDC party officials for not being professional in the way she was handled.
She insisted that she has to participate in the party primaries because all she wants is to offer my party leadership as Lord Mayor.
“I want to fly the flag of FDC at City Hall. We have never had a mayor at City Hall. I have been a woman MP and now I think someone else can fill that spot,”she said.
However, Nabilah was told all elective positions except for the presidential flag bearers were closed on Tuesday.
