The rate of unemployment is still going higher day by day as more graduates are getting out of the universities but still no jobs being created on the job market or old people retiring to create vacancies for the youth.
Most private companies are looking for people with 3 years and above experience in the given fields which isn’t a realistic requirement for a graduate that just left the university. The ones that don’t require experience will require a high excellent academic performance which leaves the average performing students out.
However even the public organizations complain that the fresh graduates don’t have practical skills to apply in the jobs as they are filled with just theory that they are taught straight from primary level. This leaves a question about who is to blame for this, is it the curriculum, the students or their teachers?
Talking to Dr.Mbonye a retired Monitoring and Evaluation specialist he encouraged the youths to make connections while at the university and volunteer in any opportunities available in order to acquire some skills or experience. He also adds that self-confidence and good communication skills are a great advantage.
He still notes that unemployment still stands and unless a solution is created soon, the situation doesn’t look promising at all for the future Uganda. 1 \l
