What the corona virus means for businesses in Uganda

1 Mins read

As the death toll in China hits over 1000, people in China are living under constant fear of their lives. Ugandan traders usually move to China to import items for trade during February but they have rescheduled their flights for a later date when the situation is stable.

The requirements for a China VISA are also very high as they can only make appointments around May. They have been advised to find other places from where they can import their items. However the traders insist that China has a variety of products and great prices.

The traders also talked about the possibility of their stock running out as it cannot last more than one month. Most of them last went shopping during the Christmas season. This shows a possible case of inflation and lack of commodities on the market. The issues are raising from the Kikuubo traders who mostly get their stock from China. They don’t know the way forward and are very worried of the next months to follow.
