Uganda’s Best University Makerere Wins Mastercard Foundation Research Grant

Makerere University has emerged as one of three institutions worldwide and the only one in Africa whose proposal won the Mastercard Foundation Research Grant.

Makerere’s  project is titled “Assessing the state of psycho-social services and evaluating the effectiveness of the scholars’ psycho-social support services at Makerere University”.

The new achievement comes following President Museveni’s suggestion of making Makerere University a research-led institute.

More details indicate that 24 institutions worldwide submitted research concepts and only three were chosen.

Makerere’s winning proposal was submitted by a team of researchers headed by the Principal Investigator, Dr. Helen Nambalirwa Nkabala from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS).

Other members of the team are; Dr. Katumba Prossy and Dr. Nansubuga Elizabeth both from the College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), Dr. Kanakulya Dickson (CHUSS), Mr. Henry Nsubuga (Manager, Counselling and Guidance Centre), Ms. Jolly Okumu, Ms. Diana Osiru Nabikolo and Ms. Harriet Tiko, (MasterCard Foundation-MCF Scholars Program), Ms. Martha Saavedra and Ms. Zhou Shuangmei from the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), Dr. Juliet Ssekandi from the University of Georgia and the language editor, Mr. Tibasiima Isaac (CHUSS).

The new achievement comes following President Museveni’s suggestion of making Makerere University a research-led institute.
