On Saturday night, Uganda’s crème de la crème in the muslim community converged at the luxurious Pearl of Africa hotel in a VIP dinner with top global and popular Islamic Scholar Sheikh Ismail Ibn Musa Menk aka Mufti Ismael Menk.
Menk arrived in the country on Wednesday night and preached at the National Mosque on Friday.
The Mufti is also the grand mufti of Zimbabwe and is in the country as part of his ‘Building Bridges tour aimed at preaching peace.
In attendance were some top shots including; Executive Chairman Aya Group of companies, Mohammed Hamid, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, Hon Syda Bumba, Imam Kasozi, MP Latif Ssebagala, Abas Kiyimba among others.
The well attended dinner was hosted in the plush hotel’s Ballroom.
While addressing the gathering, Mufti Menk advised Muslim faithful to lead by example.
“I enjoy washing my own clothes, brushing my own shoes. Leaders lead by example and Building Bridges starts with us leaders,” Mufti Menk said.
He added, “When you pray to Allah and he gives you what you’ve prayed for you need to thank Him. If He doesn’t, you need to thank Him twice. Because that proves things didn’t go your way but His way. And His way is the best way anyway.”
Mufti Menk is popular for his motivational sermons that are normally circulated on social media sites where he is a big hit. He has more than three million followers on Twitter.
In 2014 and 2017, Mufti Menk was named one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world by the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre of Jordan.
In 2018 he published a collection of his sayings as a book titled Motivational Moments and in 2019 published the second edition, titled Motivational Moment.
In 2001, Menk received first prize for presenting his research on “Effects of the Media on Islamic Dawah” to the Africa Dawah Committee in Saudi Arabia. The following year he presented research to the King Fahad Symposium held in Johannesburg, South Africa on “Obstacles Facing Dawah in African Continent and their Solutions”.
