Paul Rwandekeye, the Innovations Manager at Uganda Breweries Limited says that the success of the inaugural Black Bell Beer Olympics means that the second edition will be massive and will also include more institutions.
“We are happy with how the first tournament went. We have since received requests from other institutions asking to be included in the next event. Our intention is to make the next events even more exciting and all I can say is, ‘Watch the space,’” he said.
He also disclosed that during the KIU victory party, more games and activities will be unveiled so as to give students an idea of what they should expect in the next edition of the tournament.
The games that were played during the just concluded Black Bell Beer Olympics included Beer Checkers, Beer pong and take the shot. The most exciting thing about the Beer Olympics is that participants played by their own rules.
Beer pong is a drinking game of shots. It is just like table tennis, but with no rackets. All the teams had to do was bounce a ping pong ball across a table into a mug of beer at the other end. Every shot that dropped into the mug was consumed by the team that took that shot.
Beer checkers is like the ordinary game of checkers, but with beer mugs. In the shooting challenge game, participants took turns shooting at the board. Every target that fell meant points.
According to organizers, there is a plan to open up the competition to other participants other than university students. This will heighten competition in the tournament.
