{"id":9900,"date":"2019-07-01T13:24:43","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T10:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=9900"},"modified":"2019-07-01T13:29:44","modified_gmt":"2019-07-01T10:29:44","slug":"kenyatta-ruto-lead-kenyans-in-mourning-safaricom-boss-collymore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/07\/01\/kenyatta-ruto-lead-kenyans-in-mourning-safaricom-boss-collymore\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenyatta, Ruto Lead Kenyans In Mourning Safaricom Boss Collymore"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safaricom\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore has died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A statement from the telecommunications company on Monday morning said he succumbed to cancer at his home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore CEO of Safaricom PLC which occurred at his home on the morning of July 1, 2019,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Nicholas Ng\u2019ang\u2019a, Chairman of Safaricom, Collymore had been undergoing treatment in different hospitals and most recently Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collymore leaves behind his wife, Wambui Kamiru, whom he married in 2016 and four children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday sent a message of condolence to Collymore\u2019s family, friends and the Safaricom fraternity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is with deep sadness that I have this morning received news of the death of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore after years of battling cancer. As a country, we\u2019ve lost a distinguished corporate leader whose contribution to our national wellbeing will be missed,\u201d State House said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deputy President William Ruto described Collymore as a distinguished corporate titan, whose shrewd leadership at the helm of Safaricom was commendable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Citizen<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Safaricom\u2019s Chief Executive Officer Bob Collymore has died.
