President Yoweri Museveni yesterday (Thursday) made what he\ndescribed as, \u2018a revolutionary\u2019s pilgrimage\u2019 to the birthplace of the founding\nfather of China, Chairman Mao Zedong in Shaoshan, Hunan Province in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThank you for the invitation to Hunan; it\u2019s a pilgrimage\nto the birth place of Chairman Mao. Revolutionaries come to Hunan like\nCatholics go to Rome,\u201d President Yoweri Museveni earlier told Mr. Du Jiahao,\nSecretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee of the CPC at the Hunan Hall\nof the Rongyuan Hotel in Changsha, China before embarking on a one and a half hour\ndrive to Shaoshan in a small village that birthed the man who turned the\nfortunes of China forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Museveni was in Hunan on a two day working\nvisit during which he opened the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and also\ndelivered a keynote address. The Expo is being held under the theme, \u201cWin-win cooperation for closer China-Africa\nEconomic and Trade Partnership.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n President Museveni\u2019s pilgrimage to Shaoshan incidentally\nstarted right from his Hotel residence \u2013 the Rongyuan Hotel, Room One, which\nused to be Mao\u2019s\u2019 residency and work station in Changsha with several of\nChina\u2019s most precious relics still showcased including a direct dialing crank\nhandle telephone, a bamboo basket he used to carry his meals during inspection\nin the mountains, a chess board game he used to play with his security guards\nand a porcelain cup and dish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Shaoshan, President Museveni visited the Mao Zedong\nStatute Square where he paid his respects before taking a tour of the Mao\nZedong Memorial Hall that showcases the life and times of Chairman Mao. He\npenned his thoughts as he left the museum<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c27th<\/sup>\/6\/2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I am\npleased and honoured to visit the birthplace of Chairman Mao. Chairman Mao did\nnot only liberate China by the clarity of his thought and strategy, he also\ninspired other revolutionaries in other countries to know that the oppressed,\nif well organized and led, can win victory. We in Uganda were greatly inspired\nand guided by his thought and strategy in our multi-faceted struggle. We salute\nimmensely his contribution to China and the world.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n We also salute\nhis colleagues like Marshall Chu De and Vice- Chairman Deng Hsiao Ping and\nPremier Chou En Lai that assisted him. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Vice-Chairman\nDeng Hsiao Ping, by opening up China\u2019s economy, helped the rapid growth of its\neconomy to the second biggest economy in the world today.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nChinese revolutionaries also assisted Africa materially in its anti-colonial\nstruggle.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n In\nUganda, we are greatly indebted to these revolutionaries for their example and\ncontribution.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Y.K.Museveni Gen (rtd)\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n President Yoweri Museveni later toured the humble home\nwhere Chairman Mao was raised and a pond where he used to swim as a young boy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The President wrapped up his pilgrimage with a visit to\nthe Orange Island where a large statute of Chairman Mao, as a young man, stands\nmajestically in the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Museveni has been a great student of Chairman\nMao, restoring peace to a country that was ravaged by war and restoring\npolitical and economic unity and stability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Under his Chairmanship of the NRM Party, President\nMuseveni has consolidated Ugandans for political and economic transformation. \n\nMao\nZedong was born on December 26th<\/sup> 1893 and died September 9th<\/sup>\n1976 aged 82.
