The development relationship between Africa and the\nrest of the world must be premised on a win-win model, President Museveni has\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfrica and China should establish an equitable trade\nand development model that should emancipate humanity from the primitive\ntendencies of win-lose situations,\u201d said the President. \u201cWe should all work for\nwin-win frameworks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President made the call today (Tuesday) in Beijing,\nChina as he officially opened the Coordinators Meeting on Follow-up Actions of\nthe Beijing Summit of the China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The gathering, which is comprised of African ministers\nand their Chinese counterparts, is meeting to review the implementation of what\nwas agreed on at the 3rd<\/sup> FOCAC Summit in September last year when\nPresident Xi Jinping hosted nearly all African heads of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Museveni, who was a special guest at the\nministers\u2019 meeting, said by supporting infrastructure, which is the base of\nproduction, China was already moving in the right direction as far as\nimplementing the win-win model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Independence Support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In his address, President Museveni who is on a\nfour-day working visit to China, lauded his host country and other Communist\nstates for supporting the liberation struggles in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBy 1994, South Africa, the last occupied country in\nAfrica, had been re-conquered by the indigenous people. One of the three\nfactors that enabled Africa to end these five centuries of shame (slave trade\nand colonial times), were the two happy events that took place in Europe and\nAsia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The events, pointed out the President, were the\nOctober Communist Revolution in the Soviet Union and the Communist victory in\nChina in 1949.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He added: \u201cThese two events meant that an\nanti-imperialist camp had emerged that, eventually, contributed to the\nliberation of Africa. The other two factors that helped us regain our freedom\nwere the continued resistance of our people\u2026and the mutual bleeding of the\nimperialist countries in form of the 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> World\nWars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Addressing bottlenecks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n While commending the Communist Party for propelling\nChina from position 45 in the global economy to position two in just 70 years\n(1949-2019), President Museveni said the Asian country had taken advantage of\nits land size and population to the fullest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Africa, observed President Museveni, whereas it was\ngifted with resources and a growing population, it still had strategic\nbottlenecks to address for it to fully develop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the bottlenecks the President listed were\nideological disorientation, sectarianism, disregarding the private sector,\nunder-developed infrastructure, fragmented markets, export of raw materials and\nunderdevelopment of human resource.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He also pointed out that the progress had been held\nback by underdevelopment of agriculture, an under-developed services sector and\nfor long time a suppressed democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Museveni commended<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, who read\nPresident Xi Jinping\u2019s message at the meeting, thanked President Museveni for\naccepting to open the coordinators\u2019 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u00a0\u201cWe welcome and thank President Museveni, our special guest, for coming to this opening ceremony in person and not delegating,\u201d Mr. Wang said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n He reported that last year\u2019s FOCAC was a success and that China was committed to implementing the eight major resolutions arrived at during the summit. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The development relationship between Africa and the rest of the world must be premised on a win-win model, President Museveni has said. \u201cAfrica and China should establish an equitable trade and development model that should emancipate humanity from the primitive tendencies of win-lose situations,\u201d said the President. \u201cWe should all work for win-win frameworks.\u201d The […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":27983,"featured_media":9845,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jnews-multi-image_gallery":[],"jnews_single_post":[],"jnews_primary_category":[],"jnews_paywall_metabox":[],"jnews_override_counter":[],"footnotes":""},"categories":[98],"tags":[31],"class_list":["post-9844","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-featured"],"yoast_head":"\n
