International\nAlbinism Awareness Day was celebrated across the world and the report to\nenhance equality, countering discrimination against persons with albinism in\nUganda was launched on Thursday showing different forms of discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda\njoined the celebrations at Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala where the report\nthat was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\nindicates that the persons living with albinism are discriminated socially,\nacademically, economically and politically. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Persons\nliving with albinism noted that in their daily life, they encounter social,\neconomic and environment challenges that occur from superstition, stereotype,\nmyth and ignorance about Albinism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They\nsaid discrimination begins from birth where fathers deny children born with\nalbinism and abandon them in the care of their mothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some\nof the recommendations in the report is to create awareness among the public so\nthat people are well acquainted with conditions under which albinos face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nreport also indicates that the government pays little or no attention to\npersons with albinism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hassan\nMulondo the chairperson Uganda Association \nfor persons with albinism urged the government to consider albinos in\nthe budget so that they are in position to enjoy their freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cActually, we agitate for the legislators and\nthose who are going be involved in this budget conference to assist us and\nincrease the health budget,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid it will be irrelevant if the government talks more about albinism and do\nnot add more money in health sector more especially health issues affecting the\nperson with albinism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nadded that lack of awareness about albinism has made many parents abandon their\nchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Albinism\nis a genetic condition got at birth due to lack of melanin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
