The directorate of Interpol\nand International Relations has in a joint operation seized 5000 pieces of\ncounterfeit products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This happened after the\ntwo-day operation was conducted between 12th and 13th June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Director Interpol and International Relations,\nSCP Oyo-Nyeko Benson confirmed the operation in a press conference at Interpol\nheadquarters Kololo on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that the operation was\ncarried out in Kampala Metropolitan area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said a number of items including hardware\nproducts, cosmetics, beverages, electronics and petroleum products seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oyo-Nyeko added that\ncounterfeit products and substandard products pose a huge threat to the\npopulation and country at large.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said these can affect both the economy as\nwell as health of final consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that there are huge\namounts of such products in the open market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He however, assured the public\non the fight against counterfeit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI wish to state our\ncommitment to ensure that brands are protected and safety of consumers guaranteed,\u201d\nhe said<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further elaborated that\nIt\u2019s an offense to produce such products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said focus will be put on\nensuring that counterfeits are reduced or eliminated from the markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated that Interpol will\nwork closely with all stakeholders including consumers, represented by brand\nowners, civil society and government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
