Kampala\nLord Mayor Erias Lukwago has set a committee of five members who will help in\nthe conservation and preservation of land and other public places in Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While\naddressing the media at City Hall in Kampala on Wednesday, Lukwago noted that\nthe committee will start their duties by addressing fraudulent practices of land\ngrabbing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nselected committee has been given specific instructions to be preserved,\nhowever this is the first opportunity given to public to select them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\nhave established area land committees with strict instructions that they should\ncomply with the law while executing their duties,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lukwago\nnoted that the committee will help to address the issues of rampant alienation\nof public land in Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid most public land in Kampala has been given out such as recreation\nfacilities, wetlands and public utilities among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nstated that the land that has been given out to purported developers must be\nregained and the act must be stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nurged selected committees to stay away from land dealers commonly known as\n“blockers” as this act leads to land grabbing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“These\narea land committees have been given strict instructions to deal with that issue,\nit must be addressed and we don’t expect them to indulge in such practices of\nalienating land,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
