Teachers\nunder their umbrella, Uganda National Teachers Union (UNATU) have declared\nstrike a head of the beginning of term 2 which is due on 27th May 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to the media in a joint press briefing in Ntinda, Filbert Baguma the General Secretary Uganda National Teachers Union said there have been ongoing negotiation between teachers and the government over salary enhancement since last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Baguma\nsaid they had issued 90 days ultimatum to government to increase teachers\u2019\nsalaries which elapsed yesterday and teachers strike takes effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat means, as we prepare for second term,\nteachers will not go to school, we are going ago head to do a mobilization for\nthis strike to take place,\u201d Baguma the General secretary UNATU said during a\njoint press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Baguma\nnoted that teachers will not give up on their demands unless government fulfils\ntheir pledges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nunion leaders noted that government should have communicated to the workers\nother than keeping quiet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen\nwe demand what we agreed on and is not fulfilled and I think the pledge goes\nback to them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stated that a notice of 90 days was given\nand a letter was written to government unfortunately no feedback was received\nfrom the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTeachers\nare the most patriotic people because they endure poor working conditions with\nlittle salaries,\u201d Baguma stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other\nunions have also threatened to lay down tools, if government fails to indicate\nsalary increment in the next financial year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Usher\nWilson the chairperson, National Organization of Trade Unions called upon all\nworkers across the country to be on alert come 31st of this month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“If\ngovernment passes a budget and no salary enhancements have been structured for\nall the workers in the country, then industrial action will proceed,\u201d Usher\nWilson Owere stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nunion leaders stated that the teachers\u2019 strike is within the laws and no\nthreats are expected from government officials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
