{"id":9347,"date":"2019-05-03T15:43:12","date_gmt":"2019-05-03T12:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=9347"},"modified":"2019-05-03T15:43:28","modified_gmt":"2019-05-03T12:43:28","slug":"post-bank-officials-charged-for-abuse-of-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/05\/03\/post-bank-officials-charged-for-abuse-of-office\/","title":{"rendered":"Post Bank Officials Charged For Abuse Of Office"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The\nAnti-Corruption Division of the High Court of Uganda has charged 8 Post Bank\nofficials with cases of abuse of office. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During\nthe High Court session sitting at Kololo yesterday and presided over by Chief\nMagistrate, Pamela Ocaya Lamunu, the officials, including Bank Managing\nDirector, Stephen Mukweli, were accused of causing financial loss of nearly\nShs.1.9 billion to the bank. The suspects, however, denied the allegations and\npleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nsuspects are Stephen Mukweli, Managing Director and Ms. Wabuna Safina, Executive\nDirector Information Communication Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others\nare Mwesigye David, Augustine Kisitu, Samuel Wasigye, Alex Kayaayo, Mwesigye\nJackson and Gilbert Nuwamanya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prosecution, led by David Bisanunu, alleged that in May 2016, the suspects abused the authority entrusted to them by causing Post Bank financial loss of Shs.292,820,0000\/= million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was further alleged that the same officials caused the bank financial loss of Shs. One billion six hundred million (UGX1,600,000,000\/=) on 29<sup>th<\/sup> October 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nCourt was told that most of the crimes by the officials were committed\nparticularly during the procurement process in the bank from 2016 to 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nCourt granted the suspects cash bail ranging from Shs.2 million to 13 million\nwith each suspect required to present 3 substantive sureties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Court also ordered the suspects to surrender their travel documents such as passports, driving permits and national Identity Cards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sureties, on the other hand, were each granted non-cash bail of Shs.10,000.000\/= . The case will be brought for mention on 30<sup>th<\/sup> May 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 5<sup>th<\/sup> his year, State House Anti-corruption Unit, headed by Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema, together Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Uganda Police and the Auditor General\u2019s Office, carried out a special probe on Post Bank, Uganda after receiving credible information, from a whistle blower, about mismanagement of the bank\u2019s fund.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court of Uganda has charged 8 Post Bank officials with cases of abuse of office.
