{"id":9274,"date":"2019-04-25T09:00:28","date_gmt":"2019-04-25T06:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=9274"},"modified":"2019-04-25T09:00:45","modified_gmt":"2019-04-25T06:00:45","slug":"museveni-commends-religious-groups-for-promoting-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/25\/museveni-commends-religious-groups-for-promoting-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Museveni Commends Religious Groups For Promoting Education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President\nYoweri Museveni has hailed the outstanding work done by religious institutions\ntowards the promotion and betterment of the education sector in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nmade the remarks this afternoon at Mbarara Junior School in Mbarara Municipality\nwhere, as chief guest, he presided over the school\u2019s celebrations marking 108\nyears of its existence since 1911 when it was founded the Church of Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing\nthousands of celebrants, the President used the occasion to commend the Church\nof Uganda, the Catholic Church, the Islamic faith and Pentecostal Churches for\nsupplementing government efforts in the education sector through founding and\nsupporting several educational institutions in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He thanked the leadership of Ankole Diocese for the good leadership and stewardship of Mbarara Junior School that has enabled the school to expand and increase its enrolment from 600 pupils to 1800 pupils to date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also hailed current Headmaster of Mbarara Junior School, Mr. Nathan Mugume for the excellent managerial skills including honesty, frugality and corruption free service that, he said, has enabled the institution to develop, expand and utilise properly the school funds from parents and government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPresident also commended the Ministry of Education and Sports, under the\nleadership of the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Lady, Hon. Janet Museveni for transparent,\nopen and all-inclusive management style that has enabled the Ministry to solve\nmany challenges that had characterised and negatively impacted on the Ministry\nand on the learning environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Museveni who had earlier laid a foundation stone for the construction of the school\u2019s centenary building that will, among others, house the vocational training centre, thanked the old boys and old girls for raising substantial funds towards the construction of the school\u2019s centenary building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He pledged Shs.200 million shillings towards its construction and made cash payment of Shs. 20 million towards the installation of the school\u2019s CCTV security system to enhance its security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding shortage of classrooms, teachers\u2019 accommodation and other learning needs in schools, the President reminded Ugandans that the NRM Government decided to work on the basis of prioritization of development programmes because resources are never enough. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that for the past one decade, government had prioritised and registered great strides in the road and energy sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mbarara-junior1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mbarara-junior1-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mbarara-junior1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mbarara-junior1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mbarara-junior1-630x420.jpg 630w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mbarara-junior1-640x427.jpg 640w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/mbarara-junior1-681x454.jpg 681w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nadded that as regards the education sector, the plan is to have a government primary\nschool in every parish, government secondary school in every sub-county and a\ntechnical institute in each constituency as well as enough accommodation for\nteachers in those schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He,\nhowever, stressed the need to revisit the handling of the tendering process in the\nMinistry of Education and Sports as far as construction of schools is\nconcerned. He noted that a lot of resources are wasted due to the current tendering\nprocess, which in turn increases construction costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State Minister for Higher Education, Hon. Chrysostom Muyingo, who represented the Education and Sports Minister, Hon. Janet Museveni, revealed that Mbarara Junior school is among the top five primary schools in the country that perform brilliantly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He attributed the school\u2019s success to participation of all stakeholders in the management of the school namely the Church, parents, old boys and girls and teachers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr.\nMuyingo, on behalf of Mrs. Museveni, said that Mbarara Junior School had managed\nto achieve a lot because of the quality of citizens that the institution has\nbeen producing for the labour market. He urged them the school never to ever to\nallow anything divert it from the outstanding positive course of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ankole Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Sheldon Mwesigye, commended President Museveni and the NRM government for the recent enhancement of teachers\u2019 salaries noting the move will better teachers\u2019 welfare and performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He equally appreciated the good leadership of the Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni, that has, among others, addressed Primary Leaving Examinations\u2019 malpractices by by ensuring fair competition among schools country wide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He reported that schools under Ankole Diocese have registered excellent performance both at Primary and Secondary education levels.
