Women\nStaff in Parliament have donated an assortment of items to the Bududa landslide\nvictims who lost their property in October last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
12,000\npeople were affected by flooding and landslides in Bukalasi and Buwali\nsub-counties in Bududa district followingthree days of rainfall in the areas\naround Mount Elgon National Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nClerk to Parliament and Patron of the Women Staff Jane Kibirige said that this\nwas just the beginning of a long term association with the Uganda Red Cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis\ngesture os just the beginning of a partnership in helping those in need as a\npart of our Corporate Social Responsibility. Please do accept this small token\nbut next time it will be more than this,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nChairperson of the Forum, Helen Kawesa, said that the forum was compelled to\nhelp the victims who lost most of their property during the landslides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs\nthe Women Staff in Parliament, we decided to get different items that would\nhelp the victims who lost everything. Some men did join in the drive and\ncontributed a number of items for those who lost their property,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSecretary General, Uganda Red Cross Society, Robert Kwesiga was grateful for\nthe gesture by Parliament staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThank\nyou for this noble gesture in support of fellow Ugandans in Bududa who were\naffected by the mudslides last year. As Red Cross, we are trying to promote\nUgandans being there for fellow Ugandans affected by these kinds of\nemergencies. Iam sure these items will help them a great deal because they lost\neverything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among\nthe items that were donated were clothes, shoes, soap, bedsheets, duvets and\nduvet covers and some food stuffs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
