30\ndetectives attached to the Department of Anti-Narcotics are being empowered\nwith skills to curb Transnational Organised Crime specifically in relation to\nthe movement of narcotics across different countries and continents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\ntraining will focus closely on passenger profiling, identification of high-risk\ntravellers as well as phone mining and analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While\nlaunching the four-day training, Director Human Resource Administration, AIGP\nHajji Balimoyo Moses who represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at\nProtea Hotel in Entebbe revealed that the training is being facilitated by the\nEuropean Police [EURO-COP] under the European Africa response to Transnational\nOrganized Crimes [EU-ACT] Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\nhis speech, the IGP J.M Okoth Ochola noted that the Uganda Police Force is\nprivileged to be offered this training by the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nthanked the trainers for the offer extended to the Uganda Police Force and the\nanti-narcotics department in particular on skills enhancement in the fight\nagainst narcotics in Uganda and on the international scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe\nAnti-Narcotics Department was established with the objective of ensuring that\nnarcotics trafficking, growing and abuse in the country are checked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThough\nthe department is still small, we are building its capacity through training\nand provision of investigative tools to carry out effective investigations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTrafficking\nin narcotics is a transnational \u2013organized crime, committed by criminals that\nare highly organized, have all the money and are not limited by boarder, that\nis why there should be an effort to have drug trafficking fought,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Statistics\nshow that drug trafficking through Uganda\u2019s entry and exit points is on\nincrease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda\nhas slowly gained interest from drug traffickers using it as transit route for\ndrugs destined for Europe and America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For\nexample, in 2018 sixteen (16) traffickers of different nationalities were\nintercepted at Entebbe international airport with drugs heading to Europe,\nAsia, or America.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
