{"id":8998,"date":"2019-04-03T12:25:08","date_gmt":"2019-04-03T09:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=8998"},"modified":"2019-04-03T12:25:12","modified_gmt":"2019-04-03T09:25:12","slug":"patriotism-and-pan-africanism-for-prosperity-and-survival-museveni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/04\/03\/patriotism-and-pan-africanism-for-prosperity-and-survival-museveni\/","title":{"rendered":"Patriotism And Pan-Africanism For Prosperity And Survival \u2014 Museveni"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the\nCommander-in-Chief of the Uganda Armed Forces, has reiterated his call to Officers\nand men of the Uganda People\u2019s Defense Forces (UPDF) to internalize the\nprinciples of the Liberation Army that include, among others, patriotism and Pan-\nAfricanism, which will not only guarantee the survival and prosperity of the\npeople of Uganda but also of the entire black race on the African continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNRA gained an upper hand because it prioritized\npatriotism as opposed to sectarianism. Think of patriotism in Uganda and\noutside Uganda, think of Pan Africanism to guarantee our prosperity and\nsurvival,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He pointed out that Uganda alone will not provide\nenough market for our products hence the need to think of Africa for a bigger\nmarket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The President was yesterday (Tuesday) interfacing with Officers and Men of the 4<sup>th<\/sup> Infantry Brigade Headquarters in Gulu Municipality in Northern Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He cited the example of the current production of 2.7 billion litres of milk per annum in Uganda and yet our consumption is only 800 million litres leaving a glut of 1.9 billion litres that need regional markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEven maize, we produced 5 million tones and Ugandans consumed only one million. So, the 4 million tones need a regional market. We now produce 10,000 motorcycle tyres per day and we only use 3,000 leaving a surplus of 7,000 tyres. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So thinking of Pan Africanism gives us a bigger market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen. Museveni, who told the Gulu-based soldiers of\nthe systems of the Armies since the traditional days, explained that those Armies\nwere only serving the interest of the traditional Kings who were later defeated\nby the colonial Army, like the Kings African Rifles except for Ethiopia and\nonly served the security and economic interests of colonialists, among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that after the attainment of independence,\nAfrican leaders, who by then were very young, defied the meaning of independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll came to power when they were young without\nknowing their aims. You want to lead when you don\u2019t know what to do. This is\nvery dangerous,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen. Museveni said that the NRA then, which is now UPDF, gained an upper hand because it prioritized patriotism as opposed to sectarianism that was the order of the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that the other principles of the Liberation Army were Pan Africanism, modernization through education and business to guarantee our survival and prosperity as well as democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTherefore, you as Officers of the UPDF, are the\npriests to understand these principles and explain the ideology to your\njuniors,\u201d he advised. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He told them that to implement these principles,\nthe NRM government is putting in place all the necessary infrastructure such as\nelectricity, roads and will, later, work on the Standard Gauge Railway, that\nwill eventually lower the cost of doing business in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On education and health, Gen. Museveni pledged to address the sector in the Army to enable children of soldiers to benefit and access good health facilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He, however, reminded soldiers to be guards of their own lives as regards health by living responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t become reckless and squander your life by\nengaging in promiscuity, alcoholism, smoking and all dangerous situations that\nwill put your health at risk,\u201d he counseled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Museveni also encouraged wives of soldiers to supplement the salaries of their husbands by engaging in income generating activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He pledged to support their Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) with Shs. 100 million. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen. Museveni was accompanied by the Chief of\nDefense Forces, Gen. David Muhoozi, the Commander of Land Forces Lt. Gen. Peter\nElwelu and the Joint Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others included the Chief of Medical Services, Maj. Gen. Dr. Ambrose Musinguzi, the Commander of the Special Forces Command, Maj. Gen. Don Nabaasa and the Commander of the UPDF\u2019s Engineering Brigade, Maj. Gen. Timothy Sabiiti Mutebile.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others were UPDF Spokesperson, Brig. Richard Karemire, UPDF Political Commissar, Brig. James Matsiko and 4<sup>th<\/sup> Infantry Division Commander, Brig.
