In an ideal relationship, we\u2019d only allow our partners to see the best\nversion of us at all time. But in real<\/em> relationships, we\noften allow them to see both the best and worst we have to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is understandable. Living with someone, sharing money and toilet seats, seeing them day in and day out \u2014 it gets a bit stressful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s simply too hard to put forth our 100 percent best, 100 percent of the time.\u00a0Still, letting your guard down in front of men\u00a0you date is one thing, but\u00a0adopting an unconscious self-sabotaging role is quite another.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What many women don\u2019t realize is it\u2019s very easy to accidentally sabotage your\u00a0relationship \u2014 you don\u2019t need to hack into your partner\u2019s email or boil his pet rabbit to raise a red flag. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because there’s some pretty simple dating advice for women, and it says that acting like these types of women will immediately chase men away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. The Ball Buster<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The typical “Ball Buster” seeks control of the relationship by putting her man in his place…\u00a0repeatedly. She views herself as a “problem-solver.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though she has noble intentions (sometimes), constantly telling her\u00a0man\u00a0his way is the wrong way isn\u2019t so much noble\u00a0as it is\u00a0infuriatingly\u00a0annoying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By trying to control him, she undermines his thoughts, wishes, and,\u00a0perhaps most importantly,\u00a0his sense of competence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of this robs him of something each man holds near and dear: his masculinity.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The Mother<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Mother” does exactly what it sounds like \u2014 she mothers\nher partner. She dotes on him, she fusses and worries,\nshe believes he can do no wrong, perhaps she even picks out a sailor suit\nand knee socks for him to wear on the first day at his new job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also preoccupies\u00a0herself with\u00a0the emotional barometer of\u00a0the relationship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This might sound healthy, but it\u2019s actually not. The “Mother” puts all the relationship (all the joys, all the sorrows, all the ups and downs)\u00a0on her back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She puts pressure on herself and herself alone; it’s\u00a0her duty\u00a0to\u00a0make the relationship\u00a0work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s constantly wondering how he\u2019s feeling, where she stands, and whether he is okay and what she can do to fix it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem with this role is two-fold.\u00a0First,\u00a0a girlfriend or wife who acts like a man\u2019s mother\u00a0will lead him to rebel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After all, that\u2019s what children do. Second, it’s unfair for a woman to\nbaby a grown man! She might not mind it initially, but it\u2019ll only lead to\nresentment down the line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. The Love Vixen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Love\u00a0Vixen” is a charmer, forever able to draw men into her waiting arms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She does this by defining herself with her sexuality. In other words, she controls her mate with sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reason this\u00a0sabotages\u00a0a relationship is because she’s essentially manipulating and\u00a0blackmailing her partner.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If he wants sex, he must do what “The Love\u00a0Vixen” wants. And\u00a0it’s safe to say: Any relationship based on blackmail probably won\u2019t remain\u00a0successful for long.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. The Damsel in Distress<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concept of “The Damsel in Distress” is simple: Boy meets\ngirl, boy rescues girl, boy, and girl lives happily ever after. It may sound\nromantic, easy and productive, but it only works for a little while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the long run, a damsel can\u2019t always be in distress (unless she stars in several Lifetime movies), and the man can\u2019t always act as the hero. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s too exhausting \u2014 and unrealistic \u2014 on both fronts. In the end, the man ends up resenting her for her incompetence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. The Tease<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of us, at one time or another, have known a tease, the type of person who teases only to pull away before she seals the deal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though this isn\u2019t necessarily sabotaging in moderation, overindulgence leads to feelings of frustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like actual teasing, it’s fun at first, but then it gets old real fast. Too much teasing builds a wall between two partners, a foundation they can\u2019t surmount because of a disconnect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He feels unsatisfied, inadequate, and she feels lonely \u2014 both partners feel as if they can\u2019t express themselves openly and honestly.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. The Accountant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Accountant” focuses on\u00a0the equality of\u00a0a relationship\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the complete and TOTAL equality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A woman in this role may keep track of who pays for what and when (some may even track it to the dollar amount or take into consideration each other\u2019s respective salaries).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem here is that relationships aren\u2019t business; they\u2019re pleasure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they\u2019re not seen as enjoyable, intimacy will fall by the wayside and love\u00a0just becomes collateral damage.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. The Princess<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a woman plays the role of “The Princess,” she cares less about love than she does\u00a0about being adored and put on a pedestal. To put it simply, “The Princess” wants to marry a man who\u00a0views her as a trophy wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Women who adopt this role aren\u2019t only robbing their significant other of\nhappiness (as their relationship is empty and for show), but also robbing\nthemselves, taking away a chance at real love and connection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, every woman has played one of these roles (and men play their own roles, as well). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On occasion, falling into these roles probably won\u2019t affect your relationship much at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However,\u00a0playing them repeatedly\u00a0destroys relationships until there\u2019s nothing left to ruin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
