The\nKyegegwa District Water Engineer, Christopher Katusabe on Wednesday said that\nsafe water coverage in the district stands at 30 percent with most residents\nstill walking a distance of up to 10kilometers in search of water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Katusabe\nnoted that the major cause of water scarcity is the very low water table, which\nhas barred them from using water springs and gravity schemes that would have\nbeen cheaper alternatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe\nmain challenge we are facing is low water table in this area,\u201d he said<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nobserved that they currently receive Shs460million each financial year to sink\nboreholes, which is too little to make any impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\nneed about Shs10billion to tackle water shortage in this area but we currently\nreceive Shs460 million each financial year which is not enough,\u201d he stated <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Katusabe\nsays they need at least Shs10billion to put in place a number of production\nboreholes, which have capacity to serve many areas and at a low cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
