The Directorate of Public Prosecution has instructed\nthe Police to gather more evidence pinning Uganda\u2019s Ambassador to Burundi Maj\nGen Matayo Kyaligonza and his military Police bodyguards for assaulting a Traffic\nPolice Officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The instruction was made after perusing through a file\nwith statements recorded from Kyaligonza, his bodyguards Peter Bushindiki and\nJohn Okurut and the Traffic Officer Esther Namaganda who was allegedly\nassaulted on February 24, 2019, in Seeta, Mukono District. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Namaganda alleges that the two bodyguards punched her\nwhen she tried to stop their vehicle from making a U-turn in the middle of the\nroad at Seeta round about in Mukono district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However according Namaganda even the Maj Gen came out\nthe vehicle and boxed her and if it was not only for her friend she would have\nfallen on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were driving in a black Land cruiser with a\ndiplomatic number plate, allocated to Maj Gen Matayo Kyaligonza, Uganda\u2019s\nAmbassador to Burundi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police have since recorded statements from the victim,\nthe military bodyguards, Kyaligonza and two other witnesses from the scene of\nthe assault. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the statements were recorded and the medical\nexamination done on the traffic officer, the file was sent to DPP for\nsanctioning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga says that\nthe file has been sent back with directives to have at least two more witnesses\ninterviewed and their statements recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the incident even a journalist working with UBC was\nalso assaulted by the above errant officers for capturing the footage that made\nrounds on all social platforms. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
