{"id":8660,"date":"2019-03-16T10:19:44","date_gmt":"2019-03-16T07:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=8660"},"modified":"2019-03-16T10:19:50","modified_gmt":"2019-03-16T07:19:50","slug":"besigye-awarded-shs10m-for-being-grabbed-from-a-plane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/03\/16\/besigye-awarded-shs10m-for-being-grabbed-from-a-plane\/","title":{"rendered":"Besigye Awarded Shs10m For Being Grabbed from A Plane"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former\nForum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye has\non Friday 15<sup>th<\/sup> 2019 been awarded Shs10million in damages for illegal\narrest by police officers who grabbed him from a Kenya Airways plane at Entebbe\nAirport on October 3, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Justice\nMusa Ssekaana of the High Court Civil Division ruled that Dr Besigye was\nembarrassed and ashamed when he was grabbed from the stairs of a plane saying\nthat the police ought to have arrested him in a dignified manner especially at\nthe airport which is a gateway for tourists and foreigners coming into and\ngoing out of the country as such crude manner of arrest tainted bad picture to\nthe country and could also have economic consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr\nBesigye Said that on October 3, 2016 he was pulled off from Kenya Airways plane\nby security personal who connived with CAA officials and that he was driven\nagainst his will, through remote routes from Entebbe Airport to his home in\nKasangati, Wakiso District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\nis not the first time for assault and manhandling of opposition leaders by security\noperatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently\nHigh court in Kampala ordered Government to pay the leader of Women&#8217;s League in\nOpposition Ingrid Turinawe Shs170million for manhandling and squeezing of her\nbreasts in Walk to Work protests of 2012\/2013.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye has on Friday 15th 2019 been awarded Shs10million in damages for illegal arrest by police officers who grabbed him from a Kenya Airways plane at Entebbe Airport on October 3, 2016.
