President\nof the Republic of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence\nForces (UPDF) H.E Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has on Friday 15th commended over\n6000 Local Defence Unit (LDU) trainees for being a disciplined and trainable\nforce that managed to acquire the basic military skills and knowledge within a\nshort period of time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
President\nMuseveni made the remarks as he officiated at the Pass-Out of LDU trainees of\nIntake 02\/2018-19 at Kaweweeta Recruit Training School in Nakaseke District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President\nMuseveni noted that UPDF managed to defeat rural terrorists like Lord’s\nResistance Army, Allied Democratic Forces and eliminated cattle rustling in the\nKaramoja region but is now left with fighting urban crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He,\nhowever, observed that some security measures to improve urban insecurity like\nthe installation of security has already taken off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid that the idea of recruiting LDU trainees to beef up security most\nespecially in the urban areas is an affordable formula in defending the country\nsince it will employ the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nadded that very soon it will be impossible to commit any crime in Uganda and\nyou go unpunished since the Army has got the necessary strategic elements which\ntake time to build and should be protected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Nobody\ncan bring insecurity to Uganda, we have the capacity to defend ourselves and\nguard peace,” said the President. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nPresident urged the fresh LDU trainees to serve diligently once deployed and\navoid reckless habits like over drinking and smoking marijuana, saying these\nare bad habits that weaken ones health and often impair judgement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nthanked parents for allowing their children to join the fight of stabilizing\nUganda by serving as LDU trainees for growth to take root. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\npromised to support the fresh graduands with business skills when they go back\nto the reserve Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nChief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi thanked President Museveni for his\nunwavering guidance in stabilising Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that the LDU trainees will work with other security forces to fight urban\ncrime, which has already significantly reduced. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The\nArmy’s involvement in fighting urban crime has already disproved pessimists\nsince the vice has declined,” said Gen Muhoozi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nCommandant of the Training School, Brig Charles M Byaruhanga commended the UPDF\nleadership for all the support towards training the LDU trainees and urged the\ngraduands to put the mission before personal needs for the country to remain\nstable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Six\nThousand Two Hundred Thirty-Nine (6239) LDUs were Passed-Out, 485 being female.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nbest Overall student was Sekizivu Swalley, best in range shooting was Ochen\nDenis while the best female student was Namukisa Christine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They\nreceived gifts from the school in recognition of their excellent performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\npass-out ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Security Gen Elly\nTumwine, Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi, Deputy CDF Lt Gen Wilson\nMbadi, UPDF Joint Chief of Staff Lt Gen Joseph Musanyufu, Deputy Inspector\nGeneral of Police Maj Gen Muzeyi Sabiti, Resident District Commissioners from\nthe recruiting districts of Luweero, Mukono and Wakiso, religious and local\nleaders, among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
