The\nMinister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has revealed that Over 35 districts in\nUganda don\u2019t have government hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nalso said that the estimated cost per hospital for construction, human\nresources medicine and medical equipment is Shs31.3 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nsaid all this while presenting a report on the state of health service delivery\nin Uganda before parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr\nAceng stated that apparently there is a gap of 219 clinical specialists and 550\nsupport cadres at the mentioned levels that urgently need to be fixed for\nservice delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr\nAceng told parliament that a total of 39 districts don not have government\nhospitals which is a big threat and challenge for the people in those areas to\naccess health services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\naffected 39 districts which do not have any hospitals at all are Alebtong,\nAmuria, Amuru, Bukedea, Bukomansimbi, Bulambuli, Buvuma, Buyende, Dokolo,\nGomba, lsingiro, Kalangala, Kaliro, Kamwenge, Kibuku, Koboko, Kole, Kotido,\nKween, Kyankwanzi, Kyegegwa, Luuka, Lamwo, Lwengo, Manafwa, Mitoma,\nNakapiripirit, Namutumba, Namayingo, Ntoroko, Otuke, Pader, Rubirizi, Serere,\nSironko, Kibale, Kakumiro, Rubanda and Omoro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe population of most of these districts\ndoes not meet the recommended catchment population for a general hospital\nexcept lsingiro, Amuria and Serere,\u201d she noted<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apparently,\nUganda has six national referral hospitals including Kawempe, Kiruddu, Naguru,\nUpper Mulago and Butabika specializing in different aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nadded that once funds are availed, the districts which are not in good\ncondition will be given priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nfurther noted that whereas plans are underway to review structural constrains\naffecting lower health facilities and regional referral hospitals, government\nneeds to enhance salaries of medical personal in order to attract and retain\nthem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nfurther called for the enhanced health funding saying that currently the money\nallocated for the purchase of medicine and the related supplies are not rimming\nwith the increasing population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nadded that the total number of qualified medical personal has drastically\nincreased from 90,412 to 101350<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nfurther stated that some of those districts need special attention because of\ntheir climatic and geographical condition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
