Legislators\nfrom Busoga sub-region led by the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, have\nundertaken to work towards the socio-economic transformation of Busoga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While\nbriefing the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope, the Speaker said the\nMembers of Parliament from the region were committed to supporting the Busoga\nConsortium, which is charged with developing the region that has been lagging\nbehind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nmeeting, which took place at the King\u2019s palace in Bugembe, Jinja District, was\nmeant to appraise the Kyabazinga\u2019s about the work of the Consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nsaid all efforts by the stakeholders are directed towards harnessing Busoga\u2019s\nnatural resource endowments, development potential and opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\nwant to see Busoga and Jinja return to its former glory; an industrial and\ncommercial hub,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nadded that the Consortium would launch the Busoga Development Agenda as a\nblueprint for exploiting the region\u2019s development opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ambassador\nAgnes Kalibala, the technical head of the Development Agenda, said the\nprogramme is hinged on six development pillars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\nhave education and skills development; commercialisation of farming; tourism, culture\nand heritage; development of road infrastructure; industrialisation; and\nelevation of Jinja to a city status,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kalibala\nexplained that a detailed master plan is to be developed to support the\nimplementation of the Consortium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nKyabazinga was elated to see leaders working in unity for the development of\nBusoga sub-region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs\nleaders in Busoga, we need to pick up the mantle, unite and work hard towards\nimproving our people\u2019s livelihoods,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nemphasized that issues that negatively affect the region should not be\noverlooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPlease deal with the issue of teenage pregnancy, early marriages, high rate of school dropouts and domestic violence,\u201d he said.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
