President\nYoweri Museveni last evening received and welcomed the Israeli tourists who are\nin Uganda for a four-day tour of the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nleaders of the more than two hundred and twenty tourists, mainly from the\nIsraeli largest law firm Meitar Liquornik Geva Leshem Tal, who arrived in\nUganda on Wednesday last week, met the President at Chobe Safari Lodge in Nwoya\nDistrict in Acholi Sub-Region where he is currently chairing a 5-day retreat of\nthe Central Executive Committee of the National Resistance Movement in his\ncapacity as the Party\u2019s National Chairman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President\nMuseveni told them that for tourism they were \u201cin the right spot in the world\u201d\nbecause of the uniqueness of Uganda as one place in the world that stands right\non the Equator but also has snow referring to the snow on Mt. Rwenzori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that Uganda has everything the tourists want; from the animals, excellent sites, lakes and rivers, a peaceful environment and an educated and hospitable people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He, however, said that the country has not exploited her tourism potential because less has been done to market the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked\nabout his vision for Uganda, President Museveni told the Israeli nationals that\nhis vision was to transform Uganda into a first world country and said that to\nachieve this the focus will be on promoting commercial profit-oriented\nagriculture, industrialization of the country, promotion of the service sector\nand investment in information and communication technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid that the struggle is working to shift the population from a traditional\nand subsistence way of life to a modern way of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nadded that although he was aware of the other sectors that can contribute to\ndevelopment of the country, focus will be put on those areas where the country\nhas a comparative advantage over other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On\nthe underdevelopment of the African continent, the President attributed it to\nthe continent having a small population with a lot of natural resources that\nbrought about complacency in the population and slowed down competition among\nthe population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\ndescribed the relationship between Israel and Uganda as cordial, warm and\nmutually beneficial that has even grown stronger overtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Israeli delegation, through their leader Mr. Dan Shamgar, expressed satisfaction at the many tourist sites they visited in Uganda that are found nowhere in the world and wondered why Uganda has not done much to make them known. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They equally commended the high level of hospitality accorded to them by Ugandans during their stay in the country and assured the President that they were to be the good ambassadors of tourism in Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President used the occasion to interact with many tourists that are camped at Chobe Safari Lodge that included some Ugandans and non-Ugandans while conducting the visitors around the shores of River Nile. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
