{"id":8105,"date":"2019-02-13T16:04:26","date_gmt":"2019-02-13T13:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=8105"},"modified":"2019-02-13T16:04:30","modified_gmt":"2019-02-13T13:04:30","slug":"6000-policemen-to-be-recruited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/02\/13\/6000-policemen-to-be-recruited\/","title":{"rendered":"6,000 Policemen To Be Recruited"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nMinister of State for Internal Affairs, Mario Obiga Kania has said that plans\nare underway to recruit more police personnel to solve the current shortage in\nthe Force and the increasing cases of crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obiga\nKania said that the shortage is particularly attributed to the creation of new\nadministrative units, without a corresponding increase in police officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEvery\ndistrict would require a district police command and every sub county that has\nbeen created would also need a police post. The force that we have of about\n43,000 police officers is very limited,\u201d said Obiga Kania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Minister was responding to a matter of national importance raised by Hon. David Lukyamuzi Kalwanga during plenary sitting on 12 February, 2019. The sitting was chaired by Deputy Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kalwanga\nsaid that Busujju County has registered an increase in murder cases, which he\nattributed the increased murders to the shortage of policemen following the\ncreation of Kassanda district. He said that majority of the police personnel\nfrom Busujju were transferred to Kassanda district.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYesterday\nwe lost a resident called Ssali Willy and the Police told us that they cannot\nsolve the problem immediately,\u201d said Kalwanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minister\nObiga Kania said that funds have been secured to recruit 6,000 police personnel\nas an immediate intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe\ntotal interest is to recruit 10,000 police personnel; these should be able to\ngraduate in nine months. This will be able to solve the shortage in the police\nforce comprehensively,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\nhowever noted that government will still be faced with a problem of deployment\nbecause of inadequate funds to service, provide fuel and maintain the fleets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nMinister also said that he will find out the number of police officers deployed\nin Busujju and if necessary, some forces will be shifted to the areas facing\ndanger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have not heard about the murders in Busujju.
