Bahati\nwas arrested on Friday 01, February, 2019 and is currently at Wandegeya Police\nstation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nrecorded a statement confirming that he took the funds unscrupulously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kampala\nMetropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that the suspect\nforged signatures of his colleagues and used them to withdraw the money while\nhe was still working in DFCU Bank and also after he had been sacked from the\nsame bank. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\nhave already started investigations and we are trying to trace for the stolen\nmoney. We highly suspect that he was not working alone in this scam,”\nOwoyesigyire said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Banks Faulted<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Members\nof Nyakasura Alumni Association have faulted the banks because the failed to\nprotect the money on the accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Chairman of Nyakasura Alumni Renovations Committee, David Kihumuro explained that; \u201cWe notified the banks on 31st of January 2019, about missing funds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe\nBanks did retrieve some documentation that indicate that signatures were\nforged. It would also appear like thresholds limits were surpassed that\nrequired the bank Supervisors\/Managers to authorize before funds were\nwithdrawn. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis\nindicates a flouting of internal controls within the bank and connivance with\ninternal bank staff to defraud the account. Clearly the funds were lost under\nthe Banks care by their own staff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe\nBanks have verbally indicated that they will be conducting further\ninvestigations to establish how the funds left the accounts and that they would\nbe refunded as soon as this process is over. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHowever,\nwe have not received this confirmation in writing as yet. To date, the funds\nhave not yet been deposited on the account as promised. \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\nwere also informed that Bahati was dismissed from the DFCU bank in November\nlast year. Notice of his dismissal was only published in the press on\n7\/02\/2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Purpose of stolen funds<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In\n2017, the Nyakasura School Alumni Association embarked on a fundraising drive\ntargeted at various innovation projects at the School. A lot of people\ncontributed generously and a Shs165million realized in cash and pledges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since\nthen, the School embarked on a number of key projects and other solicitation\ninitiatives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Notable\nones include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\nRenovation of the water Hydram pump; the pump house and laying of new water\npipes. The school currently has access to safe and clean piped water<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\nCompleted the renovation of Balya House<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\nEmbarked on landscaping activities i.e. planting of flowers and trees<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\nHeld several corporate social responsibility activities<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\nHosted a Damali Old Girls fundraising tea event<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022\nInvited Gen.
