Makerere\nUniversity Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe has finally accepted to\nhold talks with the suspended lectures in effort to end the staff strike that\nhas entered third week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\na meeting with Makerere University staff, Nawangwe said that he is ready for\ntalks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\ncame here to affirm that we as management are committed to beginning a new\nchapter and that the dialogue to create total harmony, total mutual respect\nwill continue so that our university can rise even higher,\u201d said Nawangwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nawangwe\nalso appealed to the lectures s negotiations are going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet\nus return to work. Half of the university is working; another half is not\nworking; that is not good for the parents and its not good for our children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lectures\nhowever resolved not to return to lecture room until their grievances are resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suspended\nMUASA Chairperson Dr Deus Kamunyu welcomed the idea of negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Weeks\nago, Chairperson Makerere University Staff Association, Dr Deus Muhwezi Kamunyu\nwas suspended and ordered to hand over office of which he remained defiant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
