{"id":7817,"date":"2019-01-27T18:08:51","date_gmt":"2019-01-27T15:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=7817"},"modified":"2019-01-27T18:08:55","modified_gmt":"2019-01-27T15:08:55","slug":"museveni-pays-tribute-to-fallen-comrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/01\/27\/museveni-pays-tribute-to-fallen-comrade\/","title":{"rendered":"Museveni pays tribute to fallen Comrade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Yoweri Museveni has paid\ntribute to the late Mzee Ochwo Obonyo, commending him for supporting the\nstruggle against bad leadership in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I\nhave come here to pay tribute and salute late Obonyo&#8217;s contribution to our\nliberation struggle,&#8221; said President Museveni (today Saturday), as he\nvisited the home of his fallen comrade in Midodo Village, Rubongi Sub-County,\nin Eastern Uganda\u2019s Tororo District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nPresident, who visited Obonyo&#8217;s home after presiding over the 33rd NRM\nLiberation Day Anniversary celebrations, laid a wreath on Obonyo&#8217;s grave before\nmeeting the family privately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obonyo, born on March 1, 1934, was a teacher before turning to farming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1971, he became a collaborator and supporter of FRONASA, helping recruit members into the rebel outfit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Obonyo, who passed on last week, is survived by 15 children and 38 grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Obonyo1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7819\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Obonyo1.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Obonyo1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Obonyo1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Obonyo1-630x420.jpg 630w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Obonyo1-640x427.jpg 640w, https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Obonyo1-681x454.jpg 681w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>President pays tribute to the Late Obonyo  in Tororo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President\nMuseveni, who was accompanied by the First Lady Janet Museveni, said Obonyo was\nnot just resourceful in the struggle but had also become a good example for the\npopulation in Tororo by becoming a successful farmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;He\ngrew mangoes and coffee extensively, disproving claims by some that the soil in\nBudama was barren,&#8221; said the President. &#8220;Obonyo&#8217;s successful farm\nproved that the soil was not a problem but our mindsets.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nPresident, who described Obonyo as &#8220;responsible&#8221;, also saluted him\nfor emphasizing education and seeing all his 15 children through school. He\nencouraged the residents gathered in the home to emulate late Obonyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Milwen Owaro, one of Obonyo&#8217;s children, thanked President Museveni for visiting their home. &#8220;We are moved by the President&#8217;s respect for our father. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Museveni is indeed humble man and honest. He never forgets his colleagues.
