Kampala high court has set February 25th to start\nhearing Kutesa’s alleged corruption case filed by a one Brian Atuhaire who\nwants a court declaration that Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa is not fit\nto be Minister and to head any public office following corruption allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the notice signed 8th January 2019 by\nthe Deputy Registrar of the High court, hearing of the case is confirmed to\nkick off on 25th February 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Atuhaire also wants court to declare that Hon Kutesa\nis not fit to hold a public office, and also wants government through the\noffice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) to commence criminal proceedings\nagainst him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The president of republic of Uganda on\nDecember 10th 2018, referred to the bribe as a gif which is an acknowledgement\nof the fact that the money was indeed received and, in this case, the first respondent\nKutesa ought to have declared the gift to the inspector of government,”\nAtuhaire said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his affidavit in support of this matter, Atuhaire\nalleges that Kutesa while serving as a foreign Affairs minister in May 2016\nreceived a bribe worth $ 500,000 from Hong Kong Home Affairs Minister Patrick\nHo chi-ping contrary to Sec 2 (a) 5 (iii) of the Anti-corruption Act 2009<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Atuhaire says failure of the DPP to take any action\nagainst the minster and his continued stay in office contravenes article 83 of\nthe constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He adds that Kutesa serving as Foreign Affairs Minister\nyet he received bribe contrary to section 2(a)5(iii) of the anticorruption act\nof 3029 adding that he ought to be forced to relinquish his position with\nimmediate effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Attorney General told parliament last month\nthat he would soon table a report in regard to his investigations into bribery\nclaims against Minister Sam Kutesa<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
